Day 5 on the Elbe Cycle Route

After a quick breakfast, we set out on our shortest ride yet. Still an exciting one, since we meet up with Elise at the end of the day!

Day 5 was an intentional short day for us. 30 miles.

We loved our pension last night! Just a simple little apartment with a homey restaurant — perfect.

Here are a few snapshots from along the way:

We passed a very dilapidated power plant with an impressive stack. Bob pointed out that painting those stripes would be quite a feat.

Our day was mostly flat and paved… until it wasn’t. We hit some construction and realized (too late) that we were riding in wet cement. Oops.

Lunch stop = Czech cafeteria. The highlight? Pouring our own beer. Plus Bob finally got his schnitzel fix!

We rolled into Mělník just as the skies opened. Rain excuse = sweet reward.

Storm passed quickly — back to the trail!

Stopped to take in the spot where the Elbe and Vltava rivers converge.

Descending out of town gave us this perfect view, looking back at Mělník Castle.

We landed at another great pension a few miles downstream, cyclist-friendly of course (always a good sign to spot).

Elise cycled in from Prague not long after we arrived!

So good to see her — we caught up on travel tales before heading to dinner.

Dinner meant a mile+ walk down the path to the nearest restaurant. Totally worth it.

We had a lovely walk back, with a little moonlight to light our path.

Tomorrow the three of us head downriver for more adventures. Until then, dobrou noc!
