Great Ocean Walk Day 6: Milanesia Beach Gate to the Gables

An 11-mile day. Our guidebook described today as “constant tiring uphill and downhill sections.”

They weren’t wrong, especially about the “tiring” part!

It was a chilly day with occasional rain. Lots of sliding along on the steep muddy trail, but it was still a gorgeous day.

Most of today’s trail was riddled with kangaroo dung… yep, so much Roo Poo. It isn’t nearly as cute as koala excrement, so Bob didn’t think I should post a photo.

On two separate occasions, we did cross paths with the source of all that mess - substantially sized kangaroos right on the trail, happily chomping on grass and not the least bit concerned about us.

We stopped to enjoy for a bit — they’re so impressive up close. Massive legs and tail. At some point we needed to move on, so we tentatively herded them along.

We also spotted another young wallaby today. They are just so darn cute — very Ewok-like.

We had some great ocean views today. We’re a couple of weeks early for whale migration, but we were told we might get lucky, so there was lots of staring out at the open ocean — just in case.

No luck on the whales, but what a view!

Today was our last day with the driver we’ve had for the past six days. A new driver will take over tomorrow. We’ll miss Collin’s stories!

Also our last night at the farm stay. We couldn’t be happier with the arrangements — every meal was memorable and the rooms were very comfortable. Lovely hosts at CHI Farms!

Tonight’s meal was sesame chicken and tofu, a lovely Asian salad and poached pears.

Tomorrow marks 15 years of laughter, love and travel!

Tomorrow we’ll cover 12 miles, ending at the iconic 12 Apostles, the dramatic rock formations carved by crashing waves. A perfect way to end this amazing walk!
